explain yourself, mr. president. does romney do that? >> well, look, it all depends on whether or not the subject is brought up by the moderator. >> bill: no, no, no. he can bring it up anymoreself. you know that. >> it looks like he a stretch if he does it either an specific question by lehrer or specific question by obama or generalize. >> obama says 47% hold it, don't take mayor of los angeles comment out of tape out of context on a tape. i heard you saying bing bing bing bing bing. didn't look like it's tit-for-tat. he has got to look for opening more subtle than that. that's too obvious. he needs to be presidential. when he brings it up he needs to bring it up i'm wired up about. this he doesn't need to bring it up in -- he needs to bring it up in sorrow and regret. you raised this incident in a way that was racially charged stirring up animosity. >> bill: he has to rise above. >> absolutely. he he needs to be presidential. he needs to be nor o'reilly or rove on this issue because both of us are too spun up about it. >> bill: okay.

, unfortunately for mr. romney, are those people who served us in uniform, may have been dismembered in some cases, spent the rest of their lives dealing with the injuries and wounds they suffered for the country, and they don't consider themselves takers exactly. let's listen to jim webb defend them. >> governor romney and i are right about the same age, young guys. like millions in the our generation, we came to adulthood facing the harsh realities of the vietnam war. 2.7 million in our age group went to vietnam. those young marines that i led so many years ago have grown older now. they've lived lives of courage, both in combat and after their return where many of them were derided by their own peers for having served. that was a long time ago. they are not bitter. they know what they did, but in receiving veteran's benefits, they are not takers. they are givers in the ultimate sense of the word. >> joy, the whole thing, people should look it up on youtube, it's the most powerful speech. i raerd it today.

the explanation from the romney campaign is mr. romney was not pulling notes out of his pocket. he was pulling out of his pocket a handkerchief. sure enough, a little later on, oop, in the debate mr. romney is seen wiping his nose with said handkerchief. so whether you are persuaded by mitt romney wiping his nose on what is supposed to be his crib sheet notes, if you're on the left, again, like this is a conspiracy theory that just does not help. president obama did not win the first debate against mitt romney. whether or not you're happy about that he didn't win. but if your takeaway from this conspiracy theory in this debate is the reason the president didn't win is because mitt romney cheated, then what is the utility of that theory for you? what is the utility of that information? how do you think president obama should then prepare for the second debate? should he just do exactly what he did this past wednesday night, except keep a closer eye out for the cheating because that is the only reason he lost? i mean, it may be comforting to tell yourself this is what really went
